Adobe announced on Monday that in early 2016 they will be renaming their Adobe Flash Professional product to Adobe Animate CC. According to Adobe, more than a third of the content currently created by Flash Professional uses HTML 5 and that renaming Adobe Flash to Adobe Animate more accurately represents the core animation functionality of the product.  Adobe's move away from Flash animation and towards HTML 5 is a good step towards eliminating the security issues that have always revolved around Flash. Unfortunately, this is only a small step as even though Flash is no longer in the program's name, it is still going to be supported in the program and definitely not going away.

Adobe Animation CC will still be able to export animations as Flash, Air, HTML 5, and SVG, so the renaming of the product will not stop Flash from being created, used, and deployed on the web. Furthermore Adobe has already stated in their Flash roadmap that they will continue to support their Flash runtimes. With web-based game companies and advertising companies investing too much of their development into Flash, to see it go away anytime soon is unfortunately a pipe dream.

Regardless of the new name, Flash is here to stay, will continue to have vulnerabilities, and will continue to be targeted by malware developers. My advice is if you do not need Flash, uninstall it now!
