Microsoft is now blocking the Windows 11 2022 Update from being offered on some systems because of compatibility issues with the Xbox Game Bar Capture feature.
On affected devices, users are experiencing issues in which the audio and video are out of sync when capturing gameplay using the Xbox Game Bar app.
"You are more likely to encounter this issue when using the 'Record last 30 seconds' feature when 'Record in the background while I'm playing game' is enabled in Xbox Game Bar," Microsoft explains in a new Windows health dashboard entry.
"Apps which capture or process video files using the same underlying Windows libraries or APIs as Xbox Game Bar might also be affected by this issue."
Microsoft has added a compatibility hold (safeguard ID 41584256) that only applies to systems that have previously used the capture feature in the Xbox Game Bar app.
While this known issue has already been addressed in the KB5018496 preview update released on October 25, this cumulative update is optional and will not be installed automatically.
You can install it manually on your device by going into Settings > Windows Update, clicking 'Check for Updates,' and then selecting the optional preview to download and install.
Update block to be removed in mid-November
Until the fix rolls out to all Windows users, Redmond advises customers not to manually install Windows 11 22H2 on affected devices using the Media Creation Tool or the 'Update now' button until the safeguard is removed.
"The safeguard hold is estimated to be removed in mid-November 2022," the company added.
Since the Windows 11 2022 Update was released, Microsoft has added three other update blocks to prevent the upgrade from being offered due to blue screens, printing, and Windows Hello issues.
Redmond has also confirmed that the upgrade comes with a significant performance hit when copying large files over SMB, and it's also breaking provisioning, leaving Windows 11 endpoints partially configured and failing to install.
Since October 4, when it entered a new deployment phase, Windows 11 22H2 has been available to all seekers with eligible devices.
