1

During the install from an external (USB), this error occurs:

Error 20  Not a directory:  '/run/live/medium/live/filesystem.packages-remove'

Is there something I can do to prevent this?

(I don't know if it affects anything)

2

After choosing "okay", the install ends.  If I then boot from the installed/destination disk, this error occurs:

error:  file '/boot/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod' not found

Entering rescue mode...

grub rescue>

Is there something I can do to prevent this?

3

I booted again from the external (USB) and found a copy of the normal.mod file and tried to copy it to /boot/grub/i386-pc  If I use terminal, it blinks, does not give any error code, but the file does not get copied.

If there is no solution to and with 1 and 2, I need help to try to copy this file.

I don't know a lot about Linux, but I am learning.

Thanks,.

It will help others to help you if you provide some more info.

Computer brand, model and age.

The Linus distro you are attempting to install

That is an old computer. It may not support 64 bit. It originally had Win XP....right?

If that is the case then Linux Mint no longer supports 32 bit.

I also see it came with just one gig of RAM. Has that been increased?

Curious my self how Mint will run on 1 gig of ram.

Key Features
  • 2GHz Intel Celeron Processor 550
  • 1GB (2x512MB) RAM
  • 80GB 5400 rpm SATA Hard Drive
  • CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive

Mint will run okay on it with xfce or mate. The 5400rpm drive is more of a concern

Thanks, for your responses.

I tried the Ventoy installer.   The error in above 1 and 2 did not occur, but upon booting from the destination hard drive after install, now this error occurs:

error: symbol 'grub_file_filters' not found

Entering rescue mode...

grub rescue>

If you did not md5sum check the Mint iso downloaded file.  Might wanna do so.

Did you format drive as MBR drive or GPT.

On older gear I always prefer the mbr option and use extended partitions if I need more than 4.

On grub install. The check box for install grub to mbr on /dev/sda should be used .

"If you did not md5sum check the Mint iso downloaded file.  Might wanna do so."

--I don't know what this is, but I found how to get it from the downloaded file:

8a30188b6a776aafbde88a80ba4007fd

Does this mean anything to you?

"Did you format drive as MBR drive or GPT."

--It is formatted as EXT

"On grub install. The check box for install grub to mbr on /dev/sda should be used."

--Yes, I did that.

No . It means nothing to me because Mint has its way of ddoing things

https://linuxmint-installation-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/verify.html

Partition Table: msdos

Does that show on your install when you run

sudo parted -l

As to the link you provided, I do not find anything there about "md5sum check".

"Does that show on your install when you run..."

--The hard drive Mint os install that I created will not run anything.  It will not start/boot.  See above.
