Is it going to be an open source?

Linspire/LindowsOS is a combination of many open source building blocks, along with third-party licensed products, and proprietary software and technology which are bundled together to make a complete offering.

In full compliance with the GPL, Lindows, Inc. makes the source code for all the open source pieces available to registered users through the same means they receive Linspire/LindowsOS .(For example if they download Linspire/LindowsOS directly from www.linspire.com they are also able to download the source code from the same place.)

I have another 120 gb hd sitting around here and i was thinking about buying linspire and trying it out. Should I?...also, can i just put in this hd and have all my hardware work fine? Note: i would first take out the other hd and just replace it with the other one.

Shibby you can have 2 hd's in your system.without messing anythingup just connect it as your slave drive. Are you a Linux user? If not I would try it first. Alot of them are free and if not they are free to distibute. I run SuSe which I have been on for 9 month's there are so many I just liked SuSe because someone sent it to me .. Mandrake I think raw uses. I beleieve that is still free.

Ahhhhhh Linux questions... I love 'em. First let me say that I have not used Linspire. Some of the guys in my LUG have stated that it is CRAP. Keep in mind these guys have been using *nix for quite some time. Personally I don't think Linspire is aimed at the Linux crowd, it's more for MS emigrants. A lot of my LUG'rs use SuSe and like it, I use Mandrake, but have tried just about every distro. For beginners I have 2 suggestions. The first is a bootable "LiveCD" which contains a complete Linux system running off a CD. No changes are made to your hard drive, partitions or anything else. When your done remove the CD and reboot back to Windows. Now if you are pretty competent with computers and feel a hard drive install would be more your thing, I would go with Fedora. It's a spin off of RedHat and they've been around for a while. And Justin Forbes is a hell of a nice guy (shameless plug, he's working on the 64bit Fedora project) One last bit here. I would try to stay away from Slackware or Gentoo if you are just starting out with Linux as these two distros are a little more advanced then SuSe, Mandrake or Fedora.

PS: My first Linux install was to a second hard drive and my "dual boot" was to shut down the computer, remove the windows hard drive and install the Linux hard drive. You do NOT have to do this. Add the second HD and install Linux on it. Hardware detection is very good because most hardware does not come with a Linux driver disk. (I've never seen Linux drivers for any hardware I've bought, but have heard that they exist)
