If you have successfully installed alternative desktops you should see a box containing your username  with a little white circle to the right of your user name and a black rectangular box prompting you for your password.

By clicking on the little white circle the installed desktop choices will be shown. Clicking one and entering your password will display the one chosen.

Is this what you mean't?

RAMIA, what desktop did you install, and, where did you install it from?

Maybe this will help

If I don't reply right away it's because I'm waiting for Windows 10 to Update.

RAMIA.

In the top left corner of your screen do you see Application Places? If you can select this you will see your installed Linux Mint apps. This is the Gnome desktop.

Linux distributions generally provide you with multiple virtual consoles. One of these consoles runs your X server – the graphical desktop environment – while the other ones run traditional text consoles. You can switch between the virtual consoles by pressing the Ctrl+Alt+F# keys – for example, Ctrl+Alt+F1 will take you to the first virtual console. Ctrl+Alt+F7 generally takes you back to the console with the graphical desktop, although this can vary from distribution to distribution.

Try pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1  and this will bring up a terminal window which you can use to run commands., or Ctrl+Alt+F7  to go back to your GUI.

I hope these might help might

Hi RAIMA

Pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 through Ctrl+Alt+F6 will bring up 6 terminal windows. Try Ctrl+Alt+F1 and run some terminal commands.

Let me know if you can get a terminal window.

At the prompt type cal, this should display a mini calendar.

I don't think this is a good idea RAIMA.  I don't do this as it sometimes causes problems.  I will look into it for you though.  I always try simple stuff first, did you try this that I posted above.
