Usb to 3.5mm jack adapter with an android phone

My Nokia G300 has lost the ability to connect through its "standard" 3.5mm headphone jack. Apparently this is a common thing. No one bothers to invest in quality components for this even if they still put it on a phone. It would probably cost more than the phone is worth to get it fixed, if this is even possible. So in hopes of being able to still use my existing headphones I ordered an adapter that claims to connect a 3.5mm jack to a USB-C socket. It was only about $5, so it seemed a reasonable risk.

So far, it doesn't work. I can plug the adapter in to the phone USB-C jack, and then plug the headphones into the 3.5mm end of the adapter. This stops sound to the speaker but does NOT give any sound in the headphones. Is there some setting in Android that might be preventing this from working? Or is it just clearly not working when it stops external sound but doesn't deliver on the headphones?

Then it should have worked but can you provide a link to the product you bought? Does it have a sound chip?

Also, a set of bluetooth earphones if you have available bluetooth on the phone should work.

Is the one you suggest known to work? Since this seems to be one of those 'inevitable historical changes' like the shifting of video adapter connections, I suppose I ought to just get a set of USB-C headphones. I will NOT use Bluetooth if I can possibly avoid it. That is yet another Very Bad Idea. Anything Bluetooth is very susceptible to interference and just having it enabled opens all sorts of security risks I don't want to have to worry about.

The adapter you provided a link for should work. It has a sound chip. I don't know of any setting on the phone.

It's possible your phone's USB C port does not support the DAC audio chip as the phone has a 3.5mm port.
