I had my iPhone connected to my laptop. I was using windows explorer to manage the photos on my iPhone: moving some to the laptop and deleting others. I accidentally deleted some that I did not want to delete. I'm afraid that they may be permanently deleted. Any way to recover them?

Thanks.

If they aren't in your recycle bin, then they're likely gone. I can't recommend any recovery programs unfortunately, as I don't use many often but it could be a good place to start searching. Be careful what you download though.

If you haven't done much or moved directories since the delete you can usually undo your last action with CTRL+Z for future reference.

Thanks.

So I was able to recover the photos from Camera Roll and move them to a new folder on my iPhone. However, when I sue windows explore to open the iPhone the new folder isn't there. Someone said that instead of using Windows Explorer I should download iCloud for windows and use that.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks.

Yes iCloud is also a good decision.

With iCloud for Windows you will have your photos, videos, mail, calendar, files, and other important information on the go and on your Windows PC.

*   Make sure that your PC or Microsoft Surface is updated to the latest version of Windows 10.*
*   Have your Apple ID and password ready. If you don't have an Apple ID, you can create one.

I've, personally, never had any issues copying photos from the device directly using Windows File Explorer. iCloud is an option, however, you don't get much storage space and need to pay for additional above 5GB (albeit inexpensive)  - this will also allow you to backup your data on iCloud - so if you don't mind the price of a cup of coffee every month, it certainly can't hurt. In addition, once setup, it requires very little user input and backs up your data automatically. The single greatest perk I've noticed (during my time selling phones) was that you can access your iCloud data via the iCloud website by logging into your Apple ID. This saved at least half a dozen of my clients, who relied heavily on their contacts. They could sign in to iCloud anywhere, and access their contacts, pictures, videos, etc. Some food for thought. You can find out more by visiting the iCloud website here.

The easiest way to locally backup and manage your photos will be with iTunes though. This is a similar method to iCloud, but it requires user intervention, since you will need to manually plug in your phone and back it up to your computer. (I never liked doing this, and typically forgot.)

I could see all the photos and videos on my phone, but when I connected to a PC, I didn't see everything: hundreds of images and videos turned out to be invisible. Accordingly, they could not be copied via a computer. To check, I connected my iPhone to a netbook with Windows 7 — the same problem. ... I had to resort to a very inefficient, but reliable method — to copy photos and videos directly from iCloud. To do this, open the cloud storage in the browser and select photos and videos. Alas, it is impossible to select all the files — why such a restriction is made can only be guessed. The most annoying thing is that I degraded some images by such transportation, but it helped me to cope with it https://backlightblog.com/architecture-photography-on-iphone and I can recommend it to you.

Thanks, to all who have posted here. I have learned a lot (maybe enough:-) about iCloud reading this thread. For those having trouble copying, one way that has worked for me is to use the email feature of the phone. I have used that for the "notes" on the phone; I use that for shopping lists etc and wanted a backup, but as with some other features, I can't see those files just by connecting the phone via USB to the PC. I have worked around by opening one file at a time from the notes folder, and using the send function and choosing email, sending to my email address that I can access on the PC. Slow and inconvenient, but when the demon in the machine won't cooperate, it is better than nothing. Right now my main problem is that when I open one of the files in the notes folder, if it opens at all, it only stays open a short time (maybe a few seconds; varies) then closes/disappears. It seems to have started with a recurring message that my free iCloud storage is full - but, on the odd occasion that the settings function works, it says I am only using about 60% of the alleged 5G of cloud. The camera app complained about the cloud and finally quit working; it will open but will not take a picture. After many attempts I have been able to look at pictures and deleted quite a few, including some videos, but it still says the storage is full, watch out, you will not be able to recover what you have deleted (that is OK, nothing important deleted). I called Apple and they said I had too many apps open, so I closed a lot of junk and that seemed to help but it was only temporary, now the failure is back. I hope to be able to open the cloud storage from the PC and back up the files that way. I never liked cloud storage, it seems strange  - I always have to worry about malware on my PC, losing files etc, why would I want to back up my files on another computer somewhere else and add a new place for trouble - and this tends to confirm all that.

And as for the photos not being visible on the PC, I have had this phone quite a while, it is a 6S, and I used to have no problem transferring pictures, used that for various purposes, and lately that has quit along with the other problems. I think there may have been other times when that happened and the problem went away, so there may be a way to recover that function on your phone and PC - but I don't remember finding anything that helped. Reminds me of what C S Lewis said, let not the little prince worry about the white lady - for that is what we call her - being dead. No witch is ever really dead, you can always get them back :-)

@ Cauthon, #8 & 9

If you still have problems you would be far better to start your own topic on them rather than tag onto the end of another.

If you've accidentally deleted some photos from your iPhone while connected to your laptop via Windows Explorer, there are still a few things you can try to recover them:
  1. Check your computer's Recycle Bin: If you've recently deleted the photos, they may still be in your computer's Recycle Bin. To check, open the Recycle Bin and look for the photos you deleted. If you find them, simply right-click on them and select "Restore."
  2. Use a data recovery software: If the photos aren't in the Recycle Bin, you may be able to use a data recovery software to recover them. There are many software options available, such as Stellar Data Recovery, Disk Drill, or Recuva. Simply download and install the software, connect your iPhone to your computer, and follow the instructions to recover your deleted photos.
  3. Check your iCloud account: If you have iCloud Photos enabled, your deleted photos may still be available in the Recently Deleted folder of your iCloud account. To check, log in to your iCloud account on your computer and go to the Photos app. Look for the Recently Deleted folder, and if you find the photos you deleted, simply select them and click "Recover."
  4. Use iPhone data recovery software: If none of the above works then you can use a professional software to recover deleted photos from the iPhone. Such software are reliable and fulfills the purpose in recovering photos, videos, notes, contacts, WhatsApp chats & attachments, and so on.
It's important to note that the longer you wait to try to recover deleted photos, the less likely you are to be successful. So it's recommended that you try these methods as soon as possible.
