I was over at Wilders Security Forums today and found a topic about FastStone Capture software.  I tried it (free for 30 days) and was totally impressed.  In the past, I used Windows Snipping Tool and then had to import the image into editing software to modify it.  This software does it all, and includes screen recording/editing as well.  It saves in multiple formats.

I am sure that there is other software that does this, but I had not found it yet.  I purchased a family license (5 computers) for only $49.99 US (19.99 US for a single license) after using it for a few hours to see what it would do.

I have no affiliation with the company and paid full price for the software.  I think others might like to explore this as one of the many screen capture apps that are available.

They also offer image viewer and photo-resizer software, both freeware.  Go to: https://www.faststone.org/ to have a look, if you are interested.

Have a great day.

Regards,

Phil

You might also find ShareX (free) or PicPick to you liking, along (as you say) with many others. And BTW. I've been using Faststone Image Viewer as my default image viewing software for many years.

I've had good results with OBS Studio on a Windows platform. It's free.

I have had heard good things about Faststone.
I have had excellent experience with Techsmith Snagit & Camtasia over many years.
Not free, but worth the cost for my needs.
TBH I don't even make full use of all its features....
Excellent support.

(No financial interest. Just a satisfied customer.)

FastStone is one of those Windows apps that does work 100% correctly under WINE - the Windows real-time 'emulator' - in Linux. I've used it before; I like it.

We do of course have a ton of our own native apps for this kinda thing anyway, but I still have a few Windows apps I just never found acceptable equivalents for in Linux.....and which, with few exceptions, actually run very well under WINE. Chief among these is Mooi Tech's PhotoScape, which I got very, very used to under XP. I use it for creating all my desktop background wallpapers in Puppy Linux.

Mike.

First time poster here. I also use OBS. However, I am not fond of the lack of setting for screen capture size. I am 74 and just graduated with a certification in Cybersecurity and Digital Defense. I thought I would get a job right away but was sadly mistaken. I am trying to build a Social Media profile to support my siteI will try the suggestions here to try and find something better and free. If you have other suggestion for free software for making Youtube videos, I am open to trying them all. Thank u

Do you mean the final recording size or the size of the video itself (zooming in)?

Thank you for sharing your experience. I've been using the Faststone long time, as basic soft for images view and light editing (freeversion pre-installed with Wind). It's really good. But I ddin't know that it has also an option for sreen video recording. Did you try it?

Asking, because now I'm looking for an afordable tool for an educational video production. I need to capture video screen+webcam and get recorded both system sound and from mic. I can' get clear if the Faststone does recording of the system sound also or mic/speakers only? Perchance, you tried and know it?  Can't find an affordable tool for recording system sound without session time limits. I'd really appreciate your comment and would be happy if Faststone can do it.

:welcome: to Bleeping Computer.  This link should answer your questions: url]https://www.faststone.org/FSCaptureDetail.htm[/url].

I have not tested trying to capture webcam video, but you can select "microphone" or " what you are hearing" or both.  It is primarily a sophisticated screen capture utility, rather than webcam video recorder.

Webcam video recorder information can be found here: https://recorder.easeus.com/screen-recording-tips/webcam-recorder.html.

Good luck.  Have a great day.

Phil

Hey Phil, Thank you for welcoming and the feedback. It's so kind of you! Guess, I'll have to try both. It looks like the EaseUs might be even better for educational video production . At least, as per their spec description. Specifically in my case, If the features of AI noise remover and to mute the recording work well, it would be awesome. I've never heard abt this tool. I'll try them, thanks.
