Can anyone tell me why this is happening? If this is spam protection or something, I really think it's gone overboard.

I'm getting tired of all these time limits for things. I experience them on exactly zero other websites.

This limit has been in place for 20 years to prevent spammers from abusing the PM feature.

It's one new PM every 5 minutes. It should not restrict replies.

What other time limits are you seeing?

Just one other one, occasionally. I honestly can't remember which one, but I think it was that I had to wait to make a regular forum post.

We do have post edit time restrictions of 24 hours, search flood control, and post flooding control.

The latter two are not very long (far less than a minute). I would prefer not to share exactly how long to help the spammers.
