Howdy clever people.

I have an HP Probook 6570b running Win7 and Chrome as the web browser. Worked fine this morning, but when I went to use it this afternoon, it didn't.

When I hit the Chrome button the page loaded as it normally does with Google Search as the home page. However when any of the saved shortcuts are selected, all you get is the turning circle in the top left of the Google tab. No error or time out indications. And there it stays.

Pressing F12 brings up the console? on the right of the screen, and a 'Not happy' message saying "The_Cross_Origin_Opener_Policy has been ignored, because the URL's origin was untrustworthy. It was defined either in the final response or the redirect" Don't know if that means anything?

The browser works if incognito (Ctrl_Shft_N) mode is used.

I've restarted the computer....several times. Also deleted and reinstalled the Chrome browser. Still no joy.

No new programs etc have been installed, and Google doesn't seem to hint at a cause. Currently using my old work laptop (Toshiba Tecra) which has the same setup as my currently reluctant one.

So ummm.....Help?

Cheers

Pete'.

Hi, Welcome to BC.

I guess ya know what is thought of letting Win 7 out onto the internet with out having to say do.

With Google's announcement, Chrome will not be available for download on Windows 7 and 8.1 after the end of 2023. Those using these operating systems may experience degraded performance as they won't receive any new features or bug fixes.Apr 4, 2023

Hahaha, yes, well aware that my Win7 is somewhat steam driven. But so am I  :grinner: . I have a new Win11 HP, but the reason I still need my model-T is the optical drive, plus the new machine only has 2 USB ports. Should just bite the bullet and get using it. Fairly sure in the pile of....'Stock' there is a working optical from the good ol' Win95 days.... :orange:

It was more an answer as to why Chrome decided to pull the pin when it was all good this morning  :(

USB hub and an external disc drive is an alternative.

Thanks for the reply. I'm well aware of the work rounds available for the current symptom I have....well not me but the machine  . My query is if there is a known fix for Chrome suddenly not working. I've loaded Firefox as a replacement for now which works fine, although clunky by comparison, which of course could be me. Old people and tech eh... .

Save your bookmarks and see if resetting chrome helps.

...And that would have been the only thing I didn't try. Many thanks for the suggestion, which has Chrome working again :thumbup2:
