System:  Windows 10 Home or Windows 11 Home

When I backup data from my laptop, the backup includes the encrypted volume that contains my personal data.

When I buy a new laptop I need to copy the encrypted files to the new machine.
Is the following the correct procedure for copying the files in the backed up encrypted volume to a new machine?

(1) On New machine install Veracrypt and create the new volume
(2) Mount the new volume.
(3) Copy the backed up encrypted volume to the new machine
(4) Mount the backed up encrypted volume
(5) Copy all files from the backed up encrypted volume to the new volume
(6) Unmount both volumes

Thank you for the help.

Was this an encrypted file container or an encrypted partition?

Depending on how large the file container is copy, don't move, to a USB flash drive or USB external HDD. Then copy the file container to the new computer. If you used a key file you would need to copy that also.

Install Veracrypt on the new computer then mount the file container you copied to the new computer. There is no need to create a new file container on the new computer. Depending on how important the data is in the file container always back up the encrypted file container to another device and if the data is irreplaceable it would also be best to have a copy offsite.

The only reason you would create a new file container on the new computer is if you wanted to have a larger of smaller file container.

Edit: If the file container was formatted NTFS I believe it is possible to increase the size without creating a new container.
