Hello!
I am looking for a replacement for boxcryptor and after browsing for hours and trying out two solutions (VeryCrypt and cryptomator), I am still lost. What I need is a software that allows me to restore individual files e.g. if I have deleted them erroneously (rather than having to restore the entire folder/vault). Ideally free or not very expensive – for private use in combination with external drives and onedrive.
Many thanks!

Tino

Hello and welcome to BC!

I've never used boxcryptor, but a simple (and free!) solution may be to use 7zip, https://www.7-zip.org/

Encrypt:

Create a 7z archive with the files you want to include

(if speed is more important than compression quality, use STORE for the compression level)

Provide the password you want (I believe AES-256 is the default)

Optional: Use the encrypt filenames option

Decrypt:

Open the 7z archive

Provide the password

Select the files you want and extract.  (Decryption will occur during the extraction process)

Good luck!

Thanks, but 7z requires me again to put all the files into one folder for encryption rather than allowing me to work file by file within an encrypted vault like boxcryptor did
