I have recently bought a 4TB external Seagate drive.
I've formatted the drive with NTFS and am using Windows 10. Its connected to one of my USB3 ports.

The issue is that on boot, the disk, will show fine in explorer, I can open it, but I cant create or access files.
I get an I/O error of 0x8007045D.

When this happens, if I unplug the USB cable from the drive then re-insert it, its always fine. I've run health checks on the drive and they all come back as fine.

Any ideas what this could be? My device manager is showing drivers for USB are all current, and I'm using the latest AMD chipset driver files.

Does the same thing happen on a different computer? I would swap in a different cable if one is available.

But, depending on when it was purchased I would either return it to the place of purchase or replace it under warranty.

Did you run the drive test using Seatools for Windows? If not, do the quick and extended tests on the drive.

I havent got another PC available to try, but I'll try it on my laptop when I get a USB-C cable tomorrow.

I've tried different cables and different USB ports, all with the same result.

It will recognise the drive and boot, but show that error when I try top open files or write a new one.

When I re-insert the cable once its booted its always fine.

I bought it last week, so its well within warranty.

I've run Seatools, and other disk tools and all report that the disk is absolutely fine.

Its as though there is an issue with the way windows is spinning it up on boot, but I've tried different chipset drivers, including the latest and tried unticking the suspend usb in the power management, but same result

Why bother fight with it when can return it on RMA.

If this happens now, what is it going to do later. ?

Looks like it was Bitdefender.

I'd installed this (as I removed Kaspersky) on the same day as I installed this drive.

I tried disabling scans on flash drives etc.. in Bitdefender but it kept doing this. When I uninstalled it totally, the external drive was immediately available and could read/write as soon as I boot.

Now I guess I need to work out if Microsoft Defender is good enough.

There is also DefenderUI which I have not used.
