Hi:

Alas, we are not in front of your computer or your phone....
Please provide at least a wee bit of information to help us help you.

1. What is "this message"??
Please post a screenshot and/or the EXACT WORDING of the error message.

2. What is your computer's OS? Windows, Mac, or Linux?
If it is Windows, what edition, version and build?

3. Is your phone an iPhone or Android?
Make, Model, OS?

4. Is your phone powered on & unlocked when you try to connect to the computer?

5. Have you tried a different cable?

Thank you

Thank you.

I suggest trying a different cable.

While we wait for the results of that step:

1. What edition, version & build of Windows?
Example: Windows 10 22H2 v. 19045.4529

2. How are you connecting to PC? Example: USB-A or USB-C

3. Did this phone previously connect to this PC using this exact cable, and then it stopped working?

4. Or did it never work?

Hi, not a solution but should be done 1st.

Please Open the Microsoft Store and go down the left side to Library.

Please update all that you use including the MS Phone App.

Thank you for the info.

Basic troubleshooting:

1) Try a different cable > post the results

2) Try a different USB port on the computer > post the results

3) Try to connect the phone to a DIFFERENT PC > post the results

Question 1: Why are you using your PC to charge your phone, instead of a standard wall charger?

Question 2: Is the phone UNLOCKED (not just powered on) when you try to connect?

ahhhh

Note : Depending on age of the Motherboard a BIOS update / or software from M/B Support Pagewas needed to be able to Charge from M/B. ( I have one ) EDITED.

These depending would maybe in a USB Controller Drivers or Updates (I think)

Or even Possible it is not supported or is not turned on from a USB interface off Device Manager.

- Just a thought.

FWIW, the reason I asked about CHARGING is because you said:
"....my phone charges via connecting it to the USB port...."
That suggested that you were/are using the PC to charge the phone.
You did not mention photo or data transfer. ;-)

@Pk: if it was working properly in the past, but then stopped working, that would suggest that what the OP wants to do *is* supported, que no? Not all computer problems require deep-diving into mobo hardware & updates. ;-)

ANYWAY, I'm glad you resolved your issue. @Samuel3, with a relatively easy change to your phone settings. Thanks for taking the time to let us know.

@MoxieMomma not every comment I make needs to be dissected to meet your expectations nor ignoring the fact that USB Drivers can be relevant for the Topic.

Setting a port to charge only on either device will disable the data portion 100% of the time.
