Purchased this logitech m575 mouse off amazon site.  I have bought m570 mouses previously before off amazon.  When I went and opened the packaging, there was some instructions and paper that said

Connection and Use of this Communications Equipment Is Permitted by the Nigerian Communications Commission

Is this normal?  Why would it have something that says this?  I bought it off amazon directly and it was shipped directly from amazon and not a 3rd party.  When I googled this and logitech, it does show these words.  Anyone know what this is exactly?  I don't recall it had packaging inside that said something like this about Nigeria when I bought previous mouses off amazon from logitech the m570 a while back.  But this is normal right?  I don't think they sell fake trackball mouses online on amazon at least this model?

It's nice to know that if you travel or move to Nigeria your mouse will still be legal to use there.

Most of the electronic equipment I buy carries certification from the US FCC, the Canadian equivalent and the European CE mark (oddly, since Brexit, not the British Standards Institute's Kite mark). So why shouldn't the packaging contain certification for other countries ?

I suspect that this mouse, or at least its packaging, was part of a production run that was intended to be shipped to Nigeria and either cancelled or reduced.so the surplus was shipped elsewhere.

Move along, please. Nothing to see here.

What are you talking about?  Are you saying that as a joke?

So what Chris Cosgrove said is most likely the correct answer right?  Someone a few comments down did say it's not legitimate and not logitech and to send it back.

I bought it off Amazon US site and it was shipped and sold from amazon services inc.  I want to make sure this mouse is legit and I know amazon might sell fake items for certain things.

I am talking about the comment that the poster above said look at that actual explanation post.  That is what my reply is about which is about that comment in the other thread in the other forum.

So people here are saying this mouse is legit, it's just it was meant for shipping to that country right?  The thing is there is a serial number on the mouse so you can verify the mouse is legit by asking logitech then?

:hysterical:

Does the mouse work or not?  If not, it's a fake mouse.  If it works, it's a real mouse.  But now, you may wonder if it's a genuine Logitech or an unauthorised copy.  You should ask yourself if Amazon really wants to get in trouble for selling unauthorised product copies.  Perhaps you may fear that the mouse is infected with viruses.  Just run your anti-virus to ease your mind.  You can be assured your mouse will be clean, clean, clean after that.

I didn't try connecting the mouse to my laptop yet.  Someone said I could register the serial number on logitech site to see if the mouse is legit?  Anyone done this?

I want to know if anyone here had this document when buying any logitech mouse and when no one here said so, that is a bit surprising.  I even typed in Nigeria in the amazon reviews for this mouse and not one person made a comment on it.  I guess people just don't go through the instruction papers?  I rarely ever do but when I notice Nigeria Communications, I thought... I never had this ever with previous mouse with logitech purchased on amazon before.

If you connect the mouse to your laptop and it already has virus, well how will the anti virus even pick up on it?  It would the moment you plug it into your laptop?

All the required steps are included in my previous post, but perhaps not detailed is a very specific way.  So here goes:

  1. Plug the mouse in the computer.
  2. Does the mouse work.  If not, return it to Amazon.  Don't wait for the return window to close on you.
  3. Immediately run your anti-virus.
  4. Is there any virus found.  If so, disconnect your mouse, run the anti-vurus again, and return to step 1
  5. If no virus is found, enjoy you new purchase.

So your Anti Virus can't recognize the mouse the moment you plug it in?  I have kaspersky total so it doesn't recognize it?

So is there a reason why not one comment on amazon mentioned this or did everyone who bought this mouse either not have this paper or they never paid attention at it?

The idea is NOT to scan the mouse.  That would be silly.  In the almost impossible case that the fake mouse is actually a USB key disguised as mouse, you want to make sure no virus is in your file system.

If that won't fix your paranoia issues, just throw the mouse in the trash. Shrug-blue-40x40.png
