Looking for assistance on removing background to make the image 3D. It's for PC icons. The Images just look better with the background removed.

I don't understand.  What is the background?  Are you referring to removing the color black?  or the text? or??

I've tried many and they all suck.

I think photoshop would be best which I dont have.

Background is the back of the image that makes it seem square. If you remove that, the image appears 3D.

It would be tedious but in Gimp you could free select the parts of the image you want to keep, then invert the selection and then bucket fill with the color white.  The background color black blends with parts of the image so it may be difficult to get a good trace.

yea, that's what I ran into. Which was annoying and imperfect which is why I would think it's better if someone else does.

Having images with transparent backgrounds can be important for both personal and professional reasons. There are so many background (bg) removers in the internet. So of the most popular which I'm listing here according to my research:

  • Removal.ai
  • InPixio
  • Adobe Spark
  • Wondershare PixCut
  • Canva
  • Remove.bg
  • Slazzer
  • Fotor

and there are so many articles on these to know which could be the best one for you.

To get what you are looking for, you are going to have to bite the "self-teach" bullet. What you want to do is done every day by pro graphic artists. It's called creating a "mask" on the target image in Photoshop, then manipulating all else (aka: the background)  not protected by the mask to either change the background, delete the background or make it transparent.

BTW....many pro graphic artists now use Photoshop on PCs for work, it's not necessary to use a Mac. Photoshop is from Adobe, makes no difference which platform you use. You have to follow the same steps on both.

Yea, I think removing it or making it transparent is what Im trying to do but most softwares just leave errors not making it good. I was looking a way to do it very good. I figured doing it on photoshop would be easy.

Actually it is easy after you do it once. Wish you the best, and learning how to use a mask with layers will give you a major tool to doing a lot of great things.

This is an image, and a one-off operation. use GIMP (GNU image manipulation program). Import the image, turn on the alpha channel, use the select tool to select background areas, delete them, see that the alpha channel remains in those areas. Then export as png, gif or another format (not jpg) which can cope with alpha channels.

Back to visiting this site, every so often, been so busy in previous years.

I just tried an online version and couldnt find the alpha channel.

But it reminded me of the layers, and cutting to which I tried both to remove multiple times in the past but the cuts were never really good which is why I'm here.
