Faulty components: mobo? cpu? replacing in an older 1155

Hi everybody.

Lately, i've shipped an older desktop to another country (Japan) to use it when i'm there.

Something probably went wrong with the shipping and now the computer doesn't work.

More specifically, it turns on and immediately shut down without posting.

Believing it to be a PSU related issue, i tried buying a new one, but same behaviour appears.

I've spent more time into troubleshooting and it seems that this weird behaviour is related specifically to the CPU, since it only shows up when power is delivered to the CPU.

With everything else connected, but that, the computer doesn't shut down immediately, so i am thinking of a short maybe?

Now, i am not really sure if i should proceed substituting the motherboard or the CPU or just both and if there is any other way to determine or if one of the two is more likely to have gone faulty in the shipping.

The CPU doesn't present visible damage to the pins, at least that i can see.

Consider it's an older LGA1155 DDR3 configuration, but i've found replacements for less than 50€ each, so considering it runs 32 GB of DDR3 and a GTX1060 6gb and i would only need it when i'm here, i tend to think that replacing the faulty components would be worth.

Any ideas how to proceed?

Just off the top....Japan's electric grid uses an weird setup...100 volt/50Hz in the east and 60Hz in the west, according to what I read on web-searching. Did you take that into account? If not, you may have blown the mainboard.

Yes, although that was my first bet too: i replaced the PSU with a JP PSU (same model, but for japanese market), but it didn't change. Note that both PSUs are rated for both JP and West standards.

I think that should be enough to cover this possibility right?

Also everything seems to be happy outside of the CPU connector, GPU lights up and spin, fans light up and spin...

Hi, lol moving/shipping any cpu usually causes issues.

If can get to the CMOS Battery suggest pull it and leave it out for a mins while PSU is disconnected. Then stick it back in.

This is a common occurrence when the CPU is not mounted correctly. In this case (no pun intended) check that the CPU has not become dislodged/loose from the gentle treatment of the shipping company. You may have to remove it, apply fresh thermal grease and reinstall it. Go carefully here, these commercial retail units are put together cheaply as possible for mass production so you don't want to accidentally break a mounting.

Recently shipped my desktop to my new home  out of province, so I had a similar experience albeit with no real issues.

This is how it went.

I removed the graphic card and stored it in the original box. Shipped it in another well packed box.

I left the AIO inside without removing it because I thought as it's doesn't really 'pull' on the motherboard it would be OK and that the rad/fan would help keep the chassis to be more rigid.

If it was an air cooler, I would have removed it too to help prevent any damage to the motherboard and CPU socket, but I guessed the AIO wouldn't need to be removed.

I crammed as many towels and t-shirts as possible into the cavity of the case to prevent things getting banged around. Even some rolled up socks in any nooks or crannies as much as possible.

It went back in to the original case shipping box, which isn't the best way since the original case carton isn't designed to well stand the extra weight of the components, but never the less that is how it went.

Upon arrival the carton was badly damaged - it looked like the case was kicked around and a little crushed.

The UPS driver must have had his fun focusing his hostility  or frustration onto my boxes.

The original packing styrofoam for the chassis's box was broken into several large and small pieces.

The case had some minor damage in the back.

A few of the cables were loose and needed to be re-seated.

A couple of bolts were loose but nothing significant.

Everything else was fine, so it looked OK otherwise.

Other then that it booted up fine and everything worked OK.

Very smart move!! Probably save you from needing a new build.

I was surprised my monitor survived from the rough treatment too! I really like it and it would be almost impossible to replace that exact model or design (29 inch 2560x1080 21:9 IPS 200hz).

But I did create a parts list of what I would like to have at the local computer shop (Memory Express) if a rebuild or new build was needed.

Before I moved.
