Ipod nano, dont have itunes, on PC

So we came across an old (from 2008) iPod nano A1285 8GB in a drawer we were cleaning out.
It appears to be virtually new, is recognized my the PC and charged normally>

We dont use itunes and dont want to.

What is the simplest way (if possible) to manage 20 or 25 songs on this nano so he can use it, free if possible.

Thanks ill give that a try, i did in fact google it and didn't come across that specific article, perhaps i searched a bit differently.

nano does not recognize music dropped on, Followed directions exactly.  No Luck
Create sub folder Music (and added a track) in root and under ipod_control  nothing recognized>

 

If this guide doesn't work then I think you'll find that iTunes is going to be the safest & most reliable option. There is a plethora of freeware available that claims to be able to do this but I wouldn't touch any of it.

Thanks Ive tried that along with the other that is similar, not luck, we will just have to use iTunes, apparently though ,it "lighter" than it used to be and doesn't require an iTunes account anymore?(according to someone on Reddit)
 

You could use the music programs mediamonkey or winamp. Both see the ipod nano as a MTP device and you can sync the cds using those programs and then sync them onto the nano. I use it all the time, I hate itunes personally.
