Adverts that guarantee a job after you have paid for training etc...

I've searched on the forums and have not seen much history on this topic but would be really interested in what IT professionals working in the industry have to say on this and of course people like me starting out.

So I've seen and spoke to a few companies offering to give me training to break into cyber secruity after first guaranteeing me a job as a IT support worker first, paying mostly to sit two exams from COMPTIA.  Different companies charge different amounts but it can go from £800 to £2000+ with tutor support.  I decided to not do it this way and hold my current job and learn the certificates myself at entry level and pay for my own exams in the future and then apply for entry level jobs should any become open.

I just wondered what is the overall view from people about these courses? as my instinct told me to avoid.

I would trust your instincts.

No one can guarantee you a job.

There are coding bootcamps and training academies where you only pay if you get a job making over a certain amount a year.

But study hard on your own, and get those CompTIA certs. Sometimes companies, esp with government contracts, are incentivized to hire CompTIA-certified people (I am speaking from a US perspective, though - in the UK, it may be a different body that holds more weight. But there are US-based companies with branches in the UK that would fall under this umbrella).

Thanks for responses guy.  Right now I'm still working within the industry I want to leave (as bills need to be paid still!) but I am learning CompTIA Foundations and also some basic coding from Udemy and other places.  I believe this is the right way to do it.  I was always told when something sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

Do you mean an IT market in general, or just IT support?

I have several friends who got jobs after trainings but maybe that was because they were highly-motivated and dedicated a lot of time to their studying. Now one of them is working at the one of the best Dallas software development companies, other girl went to Australia and gets salary twice higher she was suggested here.

I can ask about other cities in US if you like. Because I know that they can help with work in different regions.
