Midi Device missing

Hi,everyone.

I uninstalled a game with Revo and I haven't Windows sounds now, some program has stopped having audio, such as Avidemus. It seems that with the game I uninstalled the Midi Device... on some occasions I get the error Waw driver not found.
There are some form of reinstall that (Midi device) without format windows or does anyone know what the Waw driver is?

First I want say you I'm in Europe, in Madrid,Spain actually so my responses may take 24 hours due to the time change..

I installed the program that you told me and it does not give the option to choose a language, so the log is in Spanish. I have made a translation of the errors part and I will put it below the log.

If it helps you,the errors are not generated by the system. The system works perfectly, except for example when you open Windows the login sound is not there, when there is a pop-up window there isn't that sound ...bang...so in that sense there is no problem, it saves me a lot of scares.

The errors are in video games that I want to install or play (they are games from the late 90s or early 2000s), that games must use something of the system audio. The errors range from Waw driver not found to sound card not found passing through no Midi Device.

I can listen music y audio in the movies in the audio//media players without problems...in the browsers....only there is one program that have problems with the audio:is Avidemus, when I want to cut a video it gives me an error problem with "audio device".The matter is Avidemux is important for me.

Surely this is not important but when you say that my Midi device is shown in speccy, it is in "Recording devices" / Midi (Anvsoft....) default... I say this because if I set the Anvsoft speakers to default I have no audio in the mediaplayers. I have to set the realtek speakers to default.

That caught my attention yesterday when I saw the log... and I wondered if the Midi should not be in Realtek and when I deleted it, good it now shows up in Anvsoft, but in reality there is nothing.

I'm not sure what the sound properties window is. There are some screens.

Why use revo? Because I had planned to install some old games...hundreds, so there is first the security issue and second when you uninstall games there are always empty folders or registry keys and the PC fills up with garbage, the system becomes unstable, open folders, files or antivirus scans take longer, etc.,.

I think to know how it was exactly.With some old games when installing it asks you (a window appears) have you heard this sound? As you say, that is like a piano, a support....Revo detects it as part of the installation and well, the rest is already known.

As far as I know, the only application that fails is Avidemux...I put you a screen so you can see the error.

Hi 3milenio:

Have you recently reinstalled your Vista OS?  Your Speccy report indicates you only have Service Pack 1 (released Feb 2008) and not Service Pack 2 (released May 2009), and Internet Explorer 7 (released Oct 2006) instead of Internet Explorer 9 (released Mar 2011).

I don't know if having an unpatched OS and/or outdated hardware drivers could be causing issues with your Avidemux software, but please read my 26-Sep-2022 post in VUser's Windows6.0-kb936330-x64.exe crashes mid install (0x8007000D error) in the VistaForums.  That post has has a link to the Vista SP2  standalone .exe installers (KB948465) on the Microsoft Update Catalog and also notes that Microsoft deactivated the Windows Update servers for older operating systems like Win XP and Vista on 03-Aug-2020 (see the Microsoft support article Windows Update SHA-1 Based Endpoints Discontinued for Older Windows Devices for more information).  This means that you can no longer use Windows Update to patch a Vista SP2 OS back to end of extended support on 11-Apr-2017.

It also appears that you are using a very old Avast Antivirus v12.3 instead of the legacy v18.8 recommended for Win XP SP3 and Vista SP2 computers in the 20-Jul-2018 Avast announcement End of Support for Windows XP/Vista.  See the official Avast Free Antivirus download page for Vista computers at https://www.avast.com/windows-vista-antivirus.

Have you tried posting in the Avidemux forum about this error? I found several topics there about an "audio failing to initialize" error.

For example, Lunaeros posted their Avidemux log in their 26-Nov-2019 topic Audio Failing to Initialize and the solution for their Win 7 SP1 machine was to enable downmixing for their audio output instead of using the default "Dolby ProLogic".  Moderator eumagga0x2a also suggested they use DXVA2 hardware decoding (along with the matching display driver) but it doesn't sound like that suggestion was critical to solving their "audio failing to initialize" error.

Note that I've never used Avidemux and do not know if either of those settings are appropriate for a Vista machine.

No, no no, I haven't reinstalled Windows in at least 6 or 7 years. Yes, yes, I only have service pack 1... I don't need service pack 2 (It's not only the pack there are a lot of updates for the pack...ufff),... I have this system for games (they're old games), have this until I can get an XP or a 98 (I had an XP but now it's dead).

I would normally suggest that you reinstall the game(s) that you removed with Revo Uninstaller in case Revo Uninstaller deleted a shared audio file or device driver required by Avidemux, but it sounds like you can't recall what games you removed.  

As a first troubleshooting step, open an elevated command prompt with Administrator rights and run the System File Checker command sfc /scannow to see if it can detect and repair a damaged sound file or device driver that is built in to Vista SP1. Here's a 2019 image from my Vista SP2 laptop showing that System File Checker should report that "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations" if it does not find any problems with your Vista SP1 files.

If that doesn't solve the problem then I would still advise that you request assistance in the Avidemux forum.  By examining your Avidemux logs they may be able to diagnose the problem and provide a quick solution (e.g., by tweaking your Vista SP1 audio settings as suggested above in post # 12).

I know nothing about using MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) other than what I've read in the donyaquick.com article Working with MIDI on Windows (Outside of a DAW) and I don't know why you would need it to run Avidemux unless you are using that software to edit audio files generated by an instrument like an electronic keyboard, but if the Moderator on the Avidemux forum can't provide a quick solution then ask them if a clean reinstall of Avidemux might replace your missing / damaged file(s).

I understand that you are reluctant to patch your Vista SP1 OS to the end of extended support (i.e., with Service Pack 2 plus all ~ 220 updates released between May 2008 and April 2017), but unless you are absolutely certain that Avidemux or some other software you require is not compatible with Vista SP2 then updating Vista might be the best way to replace or repair system files that might have been damaged while you were uninstalling your games with Revo Uninstaller. Use the Legacy Update software and update servers to do this - see the 2022 YouTube instruction video Get Windows Update Working on Old Windows Versions! - Legacy Update Demo (the Vista instructions start <here> at 7:43 of that video).  Note: Kudos to SIW2 for posting about Legacy Update in their 05-Dec-2023 post # 30 in the VistaForums topic Update Windows Visa Home.
