Apple Support Communities (ASC) forums - access.

Hello

A good real-life friend of mine has been banned from the ASC forums. At least that is what is shown on his screen when he tries to sign in using his Apple ID.
However, if he makes up another Apple ID using false information, he CAN then sign in to the the ASC forums.
What mechanism does Apple employ to stop people posting with their true Apple ID?
Has anyone any idea?

Something similar happened to me, I have no idea why I was banned as I had done nothing untoward. It proved impossible to contact Apple Support Community, so I contacted Apple Support, they told me the easiest option was to set up another Apple ID and use that for ASC and that a lot of people have more than one ID and use them for different things. So re your post I would suggest that Apple are quite happy for you to have more than one ID.

Thank you so much for your comment, 'Asinrute'. I am aware of many folk who use false Apple IDs to post on the Apple forums. To me that smacks of very poor security.

At first I thought that Apple may simply use Cookies to identify 'Banned' people from using the ASC forums, but experimentation from different computers and using VPNs indicates that isn't how it's done.

So, I'm asking here on this completely independent platform to see if any of the clever folk here can provide some insight into how it is done.

I disagree with that premise. Are you aware of ANY other website where your 'official' AppleID will not 'work'?   The ASC forums site appears to be a special case scenario.

Why, indeed, is there even an option to sign in with an alternative Apple ID, as indicated here:- Edit? Image added.

I take it you see a similar sign-in screen! Is that correct?

So, why is that “different” Apple ID EVER going to be necessary for non-banned, genuine, Apple computer users?

That brings me back to my initial question.  How do the Apple ASC forum moderators KNOW that you have been banned? There has to be a mechanism of some sort!

Apple told me that some people like to have one ID for use on their computer, App Store etc, and a different ID for other things signing into accounts, ASC etc. I’m just going by what Apple told me, it’s no big deal. I won’t ever go to ASC again, it’s just an old boys club. Tell me Brawdy14 have you, hand on your heart, never had more than one Apple ID?
