Laptop is practically brand new; I do not use this a lot.

Currently my laptop will freeze up when not connected to power. I did a fresh install of windows yesterday and I was able to use the computer with no issues for a day and then it starts freezing up or doesnt come out of hibernation mode. I connected my power cable and now I'm not having any issues.

Update: Computer froze when power was connected.

ROG Flow X16 GV601RM_GV601RM

Bios: American Megatrends International, LLC. GV601RM.318, 9/21/2023

This first thing I did was install all of the Asus Software to update the drivers and a program called Armoury Crate that way I have control over the system fans. The two softwares to install drivers currently were called "My Asus" and "Armoury Crate".

In the past this laptop has crashed and now freezes up randomly.

Hi, thanks.   Please use the proper name from now on which includes the year.  So the proper name is : ASUS ROG Flow X16 (2022) GV601RM

And is of course your Support Page here : https://rog.asus.com/laptops/rog-flow/rog-flow-x16-2022-series/helpdesk_bios/

(i have to include the year for mine as well)(I also use MyAsus and Armoury Crate)

So is this set up for Raid ? ??   As it is not something that needs to be done even though the Chipset says Recommended.  Am highly surprised it is the Chipset. (even though am in Raid myself)

(As mine was setup by factory and my choices I have had no issues)

So did you follow your Manual for setting Raid Up ??/

In Bios please turn off ASUS Fast Boot.

Turn off Ms Fast Start : https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/windows-11/how-to-enable-or-disable-fast-startup-on-windows-11   (Am taking it you are using Win11 as no OS mentioned).

The above needs to be done especially when installing Drivers.  So this would be the 1st thing to do after a Windows install.

EDIT : Note if Exit in Bios using Optimized Default  you are turning on ASUS Fast Boot.  So make sure you are just Exit (F10) should be if remember.

So there should be some improvements doing this after a full shut down and startup.

I suggest just doing this for now before we make any Power Plan Changes.   Though lets clear what you have :

  1. Run windows command prompt with admin privileges.
  2. In the terminal type: powercfg -h off.
  3. Press enter. then reboot.

Turn it back on

Read : https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/shut-down-sleep-or-hibernate-your-pc-2941d165-7d0a-a5e8-c5ad-8c972e8e6eff (Note tab for Win 11)

:

As well : Do not ever ever accept MS UpDate Video Drivers : https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/146562-prevent-windows-update-updating-specific-device-driver.html

If have issues with other MS Drivers turn that off also as best as can

So can do this : https://www.howtogeek.com/404131/how-to-roll-back-a-driver-in-windows/

Please Post a "link" of Speccy Report.   Not a File or a attachment but a URL
Please install Speccy Free : https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/speccy/
Use Custom Install
  At the Top Left Corner of Speccy --> Click File and then Click Publish Snapshot Report, a window will popup and Click YES. --> Another popup will appear and then Click "Copy To Clipboard" then Paste that "link" to your next reply in your thread.

Download Minitoolbox from the below link : Not a Attachment.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/minitoolbox/
  Run the tool and only select the following tick boxes.
    -List last 10 Event viewer errors
    -List installed programs
    -List devices
    -List users, partition and memory size
Now click "Go" and Copy/Paste and post the output text in your next reply

The system is not set up for RAID.

MS Fast Start has been turned off.

ASUS Fast Boot has been turned off in Bios

Ran Command Prompt in Admin Privileges and typed that command/restarted. (I've noticed when the computer went to sleep I could actually get it to come back on which I wasn't able to before)

Disabled MS Update Video Drivers

Hi, from Start --> Search type Power Options and change Power Settings from Turbo to Balanced.   === This is a form of Overclocking.  It should only be used if planning on playing a game that needs extra oomph or video editing then turned back.  Note will need to reboot between setting changes.

Change :

Turn Off Monitor after: (On AC Power): 10 min  === to 15 or 20mins, something that is realistic to the use.
Turn Off Hard Disk after: (On AC Power): 30 sec  === as mentioned realistic change to 15 -20 mins or as there is no moving parts Never.

Suspend after: (On AC Power): 10 min  Choices.....

Ok so here in this is Advanced click on it and can change other values of what wakes, what sleeps and when.  Such as if expecting a fax then turn on by lan if not turn it off. if on.
=====================
- In Task Scheduler : delete : ASUS Promotion or possibly can turn it off in Armoury Crate/My ASUS. That is auto run when ever it feels like it.
- ASUS Update Checker 2.0   Can remove if choose to or can manually use MyAsus or Armoury Crate Gear Icon lower left when opern it and then middle tab  After 2 yrs Warranty is up so all I get is Sound updates.
- REMOVE : Bitdefender Agent WatchDog_65D6944A0EF74FDAB96E31112AD39864 Why is it here, what put it here ???

- Do you like getting Push Notifications ?? Remove :if do not : Optimize Push Notification Data File-S-1-5-21-2452879981-3447852133-4257247002-1001
=== Can change or add different times for the rest and these to run.  If there is no time it is set to run at boot.

Malwarebytes open and Turn Off in Settings under Large Topic Letters : Windows Security Center always register with windows.
As Malwarebytes is a A/V program as well as Malware Protection. Does not effect malware Protection it stops having MBAM and Defender running at the same time.  Never run 2 A/V at same time.  Old interface is shown of MBAM but info is still valid as is blocking and setting Exemptions : https://www.howtogeek.com/230158/how-to-run-malwarebytes-alongside-another-antivirus/

As well maybe interested in making Windows Firewall Controls hidden controls seen : read Review, link to download.  Maker is now working for MBAM.
as well for MS Defender hidden Controls : https://github.com/AndyFul/ConfigureDefender

Suggest need to go through Settings and all it's Topics and Sub-topics and Turn Off everything you do not need.  Maps example, use google instead. Delete Maps and turn off.
Turn off Apps you do not use.
In Start Menu, Right Click stuff do not use and see what Options, uninstall, move, delete... ect...
You have TONS of MS Stuff waiting to talk to someone at Bottom of Speccy Report Network.          ====End Speccy Report...====

Application errors:

===============

System Idle State Detection Error ID: 1 - === Should change Pid to " 0  "  This should  change when change above in Power Settings.  Not  exactly a science but is idle time of Ryzen CPU Cores.

This is the issue that is causing your Hibernation Problem.

So this is a tool to understand.  Do not make changes unless understand : https://www.elevenforum.com/t/disable-modern-standby-in-windows-10-and-windows-11.3929/

I mentioned realistic times for Sleep/Hibernation what was set is Windows Recommended times for Power saving but does not adjust for actual real time usage of a system.

The constant going to hibernation every 3mins is not something that is a realistic time.

---------------

System errors:

============

- Error DCOM) (Event ID: 10010) A quick fix to this is turn off Restore Points (Type in Start --> Search (not internet search) Restore and open it and then use Configure and turn off.  Reboot then Open it again and turn it back on.

If this is a new Install why is there this ERROR for Bitdefender ???

- Description:
Code Integrity determined that a process (\Device\HarddiskVolume3\Windows\System32\SecurityHealthService.exe) attempted to load \Device\HarddiskVolume3\Program Files\Bitdefender\Bitdefender Security\bdamsi\dlls_267059357120000000\antimalware_provider64.dll that did not meet the Windows signing level requirements.

You need to delete all references to Bitdefender.  When uninstalling A/V Programs /Security programs use their Removal Tool.
And/Or use Geek Uninstaller or Revo Uninstaller.  They get more, paid versions get even more and can Monitor a Install so gets it all.

Packages:

=========

Remove : Bitdefender CL Contextual Menu -> C:\Program Files\Bitdefender\Bitdefender Security App [2024-06-27] (0)

I've went ahead and uninstalled MBAM and only will be using BitDefender. I wasn't able to turn restore points off because they were already off so I went ahead and turned them back on per instructions.

I plan on using BitDefender are you saying to do a clean install of Bitdefender and use the removal tool to ensure all the files are removed?

Also I was able to follow all instructions above.

If your practically new laptop freezes when not connected to power but works fine when plugged in, it might be a battery or power management issue. Since a fresh Windows install didn't solve it, consider checking the power settings or contacting support for a hardware check. Hi @rocky56jimmy Welcome to BC.

Not the best place to make your 1st Post at all as well you did not read the Post enough to see that Power Options were bing adjusted and instructions given to do that.

Thanks for your input though.  More relevance would be better, Thanks.

@BlueEnergy I did not see enough that Bitdefender was actually installed and that it was doing anything.   Thus saying Remove it.

Installed Programs only shows a interface : Bitdefender CL Contextual Menu -> C:\Program Files\Bitdefender\Bitdefender Security App [2024-06-27] (0)

Speccy does not even show it being installed.

Fyi : Windows Defender is in the top 10 ranked A/V.    If start having issues the 1st thing to do is uninstall Bitdefender and see if your issues go away. Use their Removal Tool.

You could have left Malwarebytes installed.  After the free it turns into a Standalone Scanner.

Hibernation issue has went away, I'll test and see if my freezing issue disappears and I'll get back with you. I have a feeling it might be the AV, but again I'll get back to you. Thanks for your help!!
