I'm trying to enter this header text on an Excel spreadsheet: B&S WI Parts List

The result is: B WI Parts List, I can't delete it, it just keeps coming back. And I never entered that text string, no need for strike through!

It will Accept B & S WI Parts List, but if I try B &S Parts List the result is again: B WI Parts List.

What's the deal with the & sign causing trouble and how do I fix it?

Type the following:

B&&S WI Parts List

That worked with the desired result, B&S WI Parts List, but why?

The ampersand symbol "&" is used for codes in EXCEL headers and footers.

"&S" is the code for strikethrough.

More info here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/excel-header-footer-complete-set-of-codes/e54c1520-5e5a-4015-a2bd-fbd6ce0cb37f

If you don't want the code you need use a double ampersand "&&".

Thanks for the explanation and list, this makes perfect sense. I've been using headers and footers in Excel and this is the first time I've inadvertently invoked a code.
