I use my currently 8.5-year-old desktop-only computer, which is updated and runs Microsoft Windows 10 Professional 64-bit Build 19045.4598 (22H2).

I also use the one-time paid lifetime version of the file archiver extractor software, WinRAR, which works impeccably, and I would prefer to continue using it.

However, today, when I downloaded the ZIP file version of two different software, HWiNFO Free and RemoveDrive, I noticed something weird.

When I opened the hwi_804.zip (HWiNFO Free) file, the text and folder text were black as usual, but upon opening the RemoveDrive.zip file, the text was blue.

When I tested the ZIP files above in WinRAR, the message was: "Test finished. No errors found during test operation."

When I unpacked the ZIP files above, they were working well as usual. However, I have NOT experienced this color issue before.

And hence, my question is as follows: Why is the text usually black, but blue in one specific ZIP file within WinRAR?

Thank you very much in advance! :)

Perhaps ask the folks at WinRAR and/or the software publishers directly?

Perhaps extract the files with 7-zip instead of WinRAR and see what happens?

But (just curious): why does this matter?

Hi. think it is a MS thing : The files which are blue in color are the compressed files. By default, these files are in blue font & are compressed to save space on the hard drive.  Nov 24, 2011

Thank you, MoxieMomma and Pkshadow! :)

Yes, I could ask the respective software developers directly, but because my issue is a minor one, they would likely NOT reply.

However, yes, I can temporarily try 7-Zip and see what happens when I get back onto my computer during the daytime on Friday because I currently am on my Android phone.

This matters because I have already for many years downloaded a certain specific number of 3rd-party software via ZIP files, whose file and folder text within WinRAR has always been black, but never blue.

However, I still have the previous version of RemoveDrive in my most recent Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office Essentials disk image backup.

As such, I will open THAT version in WinRAR and see if it has black or blue text to determine if there is any difference between the two versions.

However, I do NOT use the file and folder compression function in Windows 10 because my blue text issue only occurs when I open one specific ZIP file within WinRAR, but interestingly, the RemoveDrive.zip file name in the File Explorer is black.

On second thought, I realize that I should have included some screenshots for clarification, so I will do that in my next reply.

@Pkshadow: However, in the meantime, if it is NOT too much to ask, IIRC, you also use WinRAR, so I am wondering if you please could try to replicate my issue by opening the RemoveDrive.zip file?

Because then, maybe you also can see the blue text issue in practice.

Hi, ya no, never see Blue.  Was white Text in Dark Settings and Black letters in Light.

I also have Win10 heavily lobotomized with O&O ShutUp10 so is possible I have seen it only fleetingly.

Found this : In Winrar--> HELP-->Contents-->Configuration Settings-->File List Settings Dialogue

If enabled, WinRAR will display files with NTFS "Compressed" and "Encrypted" attributes using the same colors as Explorer.

By default these are blue color for "Compressed" and green for "Encrypted" attribute.

I would think you might have inadvertently changed a setting in Options and click on "File list" tab. The dialog contents are described below.

Files/Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color,

It also may have been added to Compression Profiles and is why it is turning up all the time.  (guessing) I have never made any changes to it other than zip /Rar type, compression type to zip and none in unzip.

I do not see what they are saying Files/Show       I have under File List it is set at : Details.
