MarkBeepBeep what version of Kubuntu are you using? 24.04 or 22.04? Because I know that Ubuntu 24.04 is having some issues that why I always wait till the .1 release of a Ubuntu distro before I upgrade/install it.

Because I don't have that problem you have when I shutdown my machine.

I'm using 24.04, the latest.
I didn't know which version to choose.

I also thought that this might be the issue. Some bugs that haven't been ironed out yet.

I'm using 22.04 and the current version of Linux Mint is also based off of 22.04, but there is one similar bug that your experiencing right now and that happens every so often when I shutdown or reboot after the screen goes black and it shows the distros name it hangs for a bit I mean it eventually stops and reboots or shuts down depending on what you chose. But this bug has in Ubuntu since at least version 18.04. It has gotten a bit better but it still happens from time to time but its pretty rare. But I must agree with cryptodan LM is best for Linux noobs.

Thanks again SuperS.
The good news for me is that since all this is a new installation, I haven't invested really any time

in one version or another.

I could easily format the partition and start from scratch again with Mint or another distro.

I don't think I'll be doing any heavy lifting with any Linux version though in the foreseeable future because of all the time

I have invested in Windows and all the Windows apps I use that probably don't have Linux versions.
I'm talking about dozens of apps.

But I will continue to experiment with Linux, slowly and see what its pros and cons are.

Try this site: https://alternativeto.net/

You can find alternatives to almost any app such as open source, Linux etc.
