These resources are valuable to newbies & long term Linux users alike.

Couldn't agree more, I've already DLd quite a few from that list, and have no doubt that I'll DL more once I've worked my way through the ones I've already DLd.

That's OK, don't let it discourage form posting the next time, I may not catch any posted to add, nor may never see it to post. :)

Evidently, a lot of Linux users are viewing that Topic, well over 27,000 viewers to date, far more than I ever anticipated when creating the Topic. :thumbup2:

@dannyboy950:

Once I did that it ran fine and found nothing but mine also found 2 warnings on the last test.  How ever I could not open the log.  Just wanted to look. lol

... about rkhunter - how did you go with that log? If the warnings were as inconsequential as mine (I had 5-6), then you are safe as houses.

rkhunter, next time it is run, will rename the old log with ".old" at the end, and so on, so you can keep a record. They are only small textual files, so will not consume a lot of valuable space.

Please start a new appropriately titled thread to continue any discussion about rkhunter, that may ensue.

This will help to ensure that people looking for advice on rkhunter will find it, and save people looking for advice on "migrating to Linux" from having to wade through off-topic discussion.

One thing I have noticed is the number of posts by veteran users of linux in many distros that are almost constantly having to fiddle with their distro to keep it like they want.

The thought comes to mind am I moveing up and out to freedom or just from the frying pan straight into the fire.  Just my observation.

Yeah, something like that

While with Windows you have to live with what Microsoft think is right (like Windows 8 and Metro apps for God sake) - with Linux you have to live with the current distribution point of view.

Of course, you can change literally anything... theoretically...

But how many of us are running into Linux kernel code or patching KDE files :) I think much less that even who can do that

So I'd not seek anything much more different here too.

While I have experience with the first Unix version long ago. I have barely glanced at Linux.

From what I have looked at for me it may not be as easy to learn as many say.

imort...you are seeing a lot of comments from those users who enjoy experimenting, testing and evaluating multiple Linux Distros. There

are Linux users such as myself who rarely run into problems. Those that just want a reliable distro that is used everyday for multiple uses.

Well they can just pick a Ubuntu or Mint and use it, don't they?

But in my experience almost everyone end up with the endless experiments with another Linux distributions, so on, so on.

I'm using Linux on my servers for many years already and I'm working as Linux system administrator

But I didn't use Linux on my desktop for many reasons.

Of course it's a personal choice nothing else.

Why are we resurrecting old threads?
