Is it mounted? Can you see anything on it?

ls -a /mnt/sdb1
If it isn't mounted, the terminal should say so if you try to unmount it:

sudo umount /dev/sdb1
Example:

al@my_desktop_pc:~$ sudo umount /dev/sdb1
umount: /dev/sdb1: not mounted

At least it seems to be mounted.

I take it that there are supposed to be more files on the partition than just one called uImage?

Unless lbiki can advise further with R-Linux, I suggest starting a thread in the Internal Hardware Forum.

There are some knowledgeable people in there who know much more about hardware than we in the Linux forum do.

Best of luck!

Ok I do remember why I stopped using Linux now, there were to many dead ends when support was needed. I know thats not your fault. I will see if ibiki has anything to add!

I love windows because the knowledge and the usability is so different, Linux has its awesome traits, but it will never be windows!

Thanks for the help!

Your GParted screenshot looks more promising. I would try and mount /dev/sdb8 and see if you can see your files.

I tried that , i got a " jay@jaylinux:~$ sudo mount -t auto /dev/sdb8 /mnt/SEAGATE2
mount: unknown filesystem type 'LVM2_member'"

I also tried using gpart to do a partition recovery, first it said it needed a long time to scan, when I said OK it said

" no file systems found, the disk scan did not find any recognizable file systems on the disk"

I also found this post interesting as well

http://pissedoffadmins.com/os/mount-unknown-filesystem-type-lvm2_member.html

This file system SHOULD be ext4 btw

Seemingly LVM filesystems are mounted differently than 'normal' Linux filesystems. This is the first I've heard of them. There is some info in this thread which seemed to work according to the OP:
