@Mike_Walsh What you said about the "techie stuff" that kind of irks me because i spent 19+ years learning what i know. and then someone comes along and does pretty much the same thing we all have done for years. to me that's a problem because if somehow it Breaks, based on what the OP had said it sounds like they'd leave one to deal with it on their own.

Hm! And I have, I reckon, been gradually picking stuff like this up for, I would guess, probably nearer 35 years. The difference being, it would appear, that for me it's always been more of a hobby.....whereas for yourself, it sounds like you actually make your living from this stuff.

Hence, you've probably had more incentive than me to actually need to learn the correct and proper 'accepted' procedures. For me, its always been a case of 'near enough is good enough'. If it works....that'll do. Even when it's very often not technically correct. I've always been a bit of a bodger, me.....I would never have been able to make a career out of computer-related stuff. Haven't got the inclination, for one thing.....nor the patience to follow procedures through from start to finish..!

(Honestly, how bad is that??)

I agree, the customer support side of all this does sound a liitle bit 'iffy', to say the least...

Mike.

Yes i do, do this for a living, and i'm a perfectionist when it comes to computers, it ALL has to work seamlessly, i will not sleep until it does haha, and im STILL learning new things almost everyday.

but that's all im going to say because this might veer off-topic.

Hi guys
Thank you very much for the immediate support, you are experts in linux and me just a newbie.
As for paypal ,my attempt to communicate with their resolution center via email was an adventure, until now have not received a confirmation that have opened a case, and so can't escalate it. I do believe that the personel is  not enough for the needs of the company, and so the costumer's support is hanging.
Have a nice day all of you
Thanks.

Ah, I think doing this for a living takes a certain mind-set......and the requirement of being a perfectionist goes, I think, without saying.

Fair play to you, old son.

Over the last couple of years, I've converted maybe a dozen or so people to using Linux. All of them, without exception, were delighted with how easy it was to pick up, and to learn. None of them were 'power-users', and therefore didn't find it as hard to learn new ways of doing the same things. I'm happy with that.

And I agree with you about one thing more. Every day is a new adventure with computing in general, and Linux in particular.....there is always something new to learn.

And there I, too, will leave it. Don't want my knuckles rapped..!  :P

We don't want dim-io's 1st Topic with us to be shut down for going :offtopic: .

Suggest start a Topic in General eg "How I became Involved with Computers", or similar.

Then I can throw in programming in Minitran (Monash University Melbourne version of Fortran) in 1972 (44 years), and some else will still beat me in the peeing competition, LOL (laugh out loud).

See you around the Forum, dim-io :hello:

Sorry for bumping an old old topic but I found this thread when curious what distro the Xtra-PC was built upon. You guys generally seem quite knowledable but I felt rather surprised at your comments about being shocked at people selling Linux distros as this is supported, even encouraged, by the GPL licence they come under.

Hah!

I see the price is climbing through the rafters... It's now up to minimum $35 for the basic one. And the top-end one; $80 down from $160?????

That is taking the p**s. That really is.

Even less impressed than I was a year ago. Naughty..!!

(Plenty of folks'll still go for it, though...)

Hi, kazakore.

I believe you'll find the distro it's using is Lubuntu - the 'lightweight' version of Ubuntu. That's the impression most of us get, anyway.
