the best way to learn is to install a distro and to learn from it.

A little guidance would be helpful to many new Linux users, or those who wants to learn more, beyond that of just ditching Windows & having a free OS to browse the Web with. There is much under the hood of Linux, most of us are hardly scraping the surface of what's beneath. Just using it wouldn't uncover all of the materials in these guides.

That's where e-books comes in. Remember when in school the teachers told us that reading is good for us, well they still make this a requirement of students today. Reading is empowerment.

Yeah? Well to be a new linux user implies having installed it.

A/V Software? I don't need A/V software. I've run Linux since '98 w/o A/V software and have never had a virus. I never even had a firewall until '01 when I began to get routers with firewalls pre installed. With Linux if a vulnerability is detected a fix is quickly found and then upon your next update the vulnerability is patched.  If you must worry about viruses  on a Linux system only worry about them in the sense that you can infect a windows user. I recommend Linux Mint or, if you need a lighter weight operating system that fits on a cd, MX14 or AntiX.

Does your computer require an UEFI key to boot? Why don't you just create your own uefi key?

http://www.rodsbooks.com/efi-bootloaders/secureboot.html (search for 'Replacing your firmware's keys if you don't want to read all of it)

Yeah? And what is the point of posting such comments in a topic devoted to Linux Guides & e-books?

Probably a bit late in the day, one for the wanna be devs, Qt4 is outdated but the ideas translate to Qt5. So you'd like to learn about low level/kernel development. Maybe you just wanna read a bit of hacker history, try this classic

I'm not sure if this should go here, or in it's own thread.  I recently found a list of free courses, including the edx course listed on the site a few times.  This article was dated Nov 2014 but the ones I clicked on could still get you a course, even if it was archived.

 http://www.cio.com/article/2847396/it-skills/8-free-online-courses-to-grow-your-tech-skills.html#slide1

I'm supposed to be either outside, or straightening out my bookmarks, and I found this bookmarked, but hadn't looked at it yet.

Thanks heyyou. Here's a thread on edX courses. They are still running free courses that anyone can join.

From what I read, the courses at edx and others were mentioned.  The ones started will mostly be offered again later, and some are archived, meaning you can see all the info online, but not have classmates, or a teacher (prof whatever), and take at your own speed.  Intro to linux was offered a couple times.  I think the edX link takes you to their site.  To be hones I didn't go there, as I've been there before.  But I did go into some and look at what was offered, or else got lost.

LibreOffice.org PDF's

https://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/documentation/

Of course there is the Help but that don't always work out.  I'm really surprised that more people are not asking questions about this as it seems to be better than all the online programs.  I tried to ask questions on there forum but got no answer to a pretty simple question.
