Already mentioned liberatedgames.com earlier, but there's one game in particular from that site that's an absolute classic!

It's called Abuse from Bungie long before their Halo days. It's a side-scrolling action game but you're pretty much free to go in any direction and has LOADS of weapons. The control scheme is very simple and intuitive as you use the mouse to aim your weapon and the keys to move. It's DOS-based and I'm not exactly sure how one can run the game, but I'd imagine it's possible.

*CORRECTION* The game itself was developed by Crack Dot Com (defunct now) and ported for the Mac by Bungie

Here's the link: Abuse

Enjoy! I used to play it all the time while on duty as a computer lab monitor in my college days! LOL!

*NOTE* It's available on both Mac & PC platforms!

The greatest PC game I have ever played is called CaveStory. It's developed by one man team Studio Pixel. It's what you get when you combine metroid with castlevania. It's incredibly old school and kickass.

Here's an excellent site of free online games. It is quickly becoming the "youtube of Games" (as stated by Times magazine).

With a quick account creation, you can start today! (You also get achievement points for completing certain goals in games, like XBox)

Forgot To mention mu-online as a free mmo

If MU would be included to the List, you should not forget about Ragnarok Online! It's quite old but it's still free to download and even free to play (Valkyrie Server).

I'm looking for games that are free and offline, mostly in the RPG or RTS (Not take turns though). Does anyone know where to just find a list that you can pick and download from? I'm looking for a lot of the older games that are marked as abandonedware or whatever. I got Doungenkeepers 2 this way, which is a loveable game, though crashes from time to time. http://members.chello.at/theodor.lauppert/games/dk2.htm (Not sure if the download link is there anymore)
