What size surge protector should I be looking at?

That's all true, but it's also true that there are NEVER any guarantees with high level surges, especially lightning. You can take all the precautions you want, but if lightning wants to get there, it often will.

 

Man, I wish I had a whole home surge protection system.

Contact a local electrician and see about getting one installed, I asked about one for my house, but they said I didn't need it to due to how often lightning strikes near me. Also the frequency of surges on the line. They did tell me that with EV's becoming more popular that added strain on the grid may merit one in the future.

Oh ask them to see if the can as a method to protect those that rent. Your renters insurance could be impacted.

You can't really test Surge Protection, except destructively.

 

You can test the UPS by unplugging it and seeing how long your PC works without power.
