I am concerned if I do this myself, a boom or acid leaking out of the battery could happen. Why I did I say that? Several people in other forums said if you don't know what you are doing, don't because that could happen.
So are they wrong here or not?

This is insecurity talking, not facts. Three technicians with probably 40 years of combined experience have given you the facts. If you're too afraid to do this, that's an entirely different story.
Do you really think the vendor would allow acid to leak out of a battery that's labelled as consumer replaceable?
