pfSense in front of your systems as your network firewall, run Suricata on it with free IDS/IPS updates, and then either pfblockerng or Cloudflare DNS. All of that can be done for free.

Spyshelter Free has an excellent firewall as well as a Host-based Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS). Its HIPS will even tell you when your one of your security apps is doing something dodgy.  Very light. For the first week, it will pop a lot of alerts as it learns about the user's specific apps & activities.
