I'm not sure how to back up everything ?  Its been a while since I last worked on computers.  I really only need the data files for MS Works so I can get it back on another computer similar to this one.   I did find the install disk I had used 10 years ago when I put it on his old Dell.

I also am looking at just replacing the capacitors .  I see only two that are bad.  The larger ones.

He said he really needs it back going and of course he never backed up anything. The other option is finding an older Dell like this that came with windows xp.   Thanks.   Tom

If you can find an old XP PC, it doesn't have to be a Dell, it will have Works installed on it. I believe that Works was installed as part of XP, way back then

All you will need to do is to take the HDD out of his PC and install it alongside the HDD already installed in your working PC. It should appear with its own Drive letter and you should then be able to search it and transfer all the files.

Depends on whether it has the original OEM XP installed on it and not all of them had it.

Hard to find today.

I don't know if his came with MS Works or not.  I have threw away many of these old Dell's in the past.  I also have looked on ebay and the prices are way too high for buying one.  I know a person who is retired like me that may can replace the capacitors.  I will report back.
