It's not location-related. My location is set to Canada. There are only two official languages here, and neither is Spanish, Italian or German etc. I've also confirmed with other users, as well as Amazon support that this is a known issue.
I use a fairly good ad blocker at the router level too. It's not as sophisticated a Pi-hole, but it does the job quite well.

An update:
I got totally fed up with my char...er.. I mean Fire TV Stick and went and bought an Nvdia Shield. Wow! What a difference. Way better video quaity. , No remote lag, ever. And it's much more customizable. I'll even try running a couple other non-video-related apps on it to see how that works.
Of course, it cost 5 times as much as the Firestick.
