There were no devices found. I have a WD NAS and 2 WD USB external drives connected to the NAS but no local WD drives.

Here is a screen capture.

was there something specific you were looking for with the WD Dashboard?

Thank you.

The Event Viewer log referenced a possible hardware issue so I wanted to stop and make sure your drive was not on the verge of dying. It looks good so now I will return and review more of the Event Viewer log. I will be replying tomorrow.

You can but your hard drive appears to be in excellent shape.

How often do you get the closing app issue?

If you get the error, select cancel, then attempt the shutdown again does the error message show up again?

Thanks for that but it has been a while since I backed up my data so it was a good reminder.

I don’t shut it down as often as I should so I can’t really say how often I will get a message like that. Many times there are programs open but are named so will cancel and close those programs and then try to shut down again.

This last time I did cancel and checked and there was nothing obvious running. I selected shut down again and the unnamed app was still open, so cancelling and trying it again didn’t make any difference.. I should have gone into the task manager to see what it showed but didn’t think about it until after.

Thank you for the explanation.

What we will try to do is capture computer activity during the time the App fails to shut down properly.

Please do this.

===================================================

Process Monitor

--------------------
  • The next time an App fails to close during computer shutdown cancel the shutdown process
  • Download Process Monitor and save it to your Desktop
  • Right click on Procmon and select Run as administrator
  • Agree to any permission requests
  • Hit Ctrl + E to stop capturing events
  • Hit Ctrl + X at the same time to clear the display
  • Hit Ctrl + E to restart the capturing of events
  • Immediately thereafter attempt to shut down the computer
  • After receiving the notification an App failed to shut down hit Ctrl + E to stop capturing events
  • Click Cancel once again to stop the shutdown process
  • Hit the Ctrl + S keys at the same time
  • Select All events and .PML format and save the file onto your Desktop as Logfile.PML
  • Upload the file to GoFile or the file hosting site of your choice and send me a Personal Message with the download link
===================================================

Things I would like to see in your next reply.

Ok will do. I should mention when I shut down last night there were no apps shown as being open but will monitor it and if or when it happens again will follow your recommendations.

Is there anything else to be checked right now?

Can you tell me if the issue with ctrl + scroll only affects Live Mail?

I’m not sure what other programs it should work in. I know it used to work in Internet Explorer and no longer worked in it when I quit using it quite sometime ago. It doesn’t work in file explorer but don’t know if it is supposed too. Mail is the main one I am concerned with as sometimes mail messages can have quite small text.

I'm trying to determine if this is a system/browser or program issue.

While in Edge, if you hit the ctrl key plus either the plus or minus key does the screen change accordingly?

If you access Live Mail in Firefox or Chrome and try the zoom feature is the behavior any different?

I will try Edge but I believe it does work in Edge. Windows Live Mail is a standalone program and is not associated with Edge or Chrome or any browser.
