I'm in the process of copying a massive amount of data from a SSD to a USB stick inside Linux.

I'm already having problems.

After about 10 minutes or so the monitor went dark. That's OK because the light on the SSD kept blinking.

But shortly after the computer power light started blinking, indicating it had gone into sleep mode.

When this happened the file copying stopped.

When I hit a key the computer came back to life and the copying resumed.

I need to find out quickly how to stop the computer from going to sleep during this copying because I can't monitor it for hours.

I just went into settings and disabled:

1. Screen energy savings

2. Suspend session (was 15 minutes)

That should take care of the problem right?

Wait 15 minutes and see. It's as simple as that.

Yes thanks.

Well it's working out just fine now.  :)

No timeouts with the session and I have turned off the monitor to keep it nice and dark.

Problem solved!

 Check Power Settings

  1. Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
  2. Click on Choose what the power buttons do.
  3. Select Change plan settings next to the plan you are currently using.
  4. Click on Change advanced power settings.
  5. Expand Sleep and set the Sleep timer to a longer duration or Never.

Hope this helps

Yes, disabling "Screen energy savings" and "Suspend session" should prevent your computer from going to sleep during the file copying process. Additionally, you can use the caffeinate command in Linux to temporarily prevent the system from sleeping:

bash
Copy code
caffeinate cp -r /source_directory /destination_directory

This ensures your computer stays awake for the duration of the copy. Good luck!
