Hi

Mike!!

I have been arguing with someone on YouTube  ( Thinks hes a Jedi Mater when it comes to Linux but uses Kali LOL, I have no words to describe the contempt for that OS ) that thinks they  can hack my HP 6910P,running Puppy Linux from a read only finalized ( Cant be written to ) CD.

I have tried explaining just how puppy works and that no matter what he tries that without any physical persistent storage device everything that he may have been able to do is gone after a restart, his head seems to be exploding because as you know its not exactly easy to install software in puppy at the best of times.

I think explaining how to re-master a CD just sent him over the edge.

Then I explained to him that the difference between him and me when it comes to puppy is like the difference between a Sith and a Jedi, A Sith starts his training when a Jedi thinks hes a master,  and invited him to join the dark side. He's not a bad guy he just thinks main stream Operating systems are OK. Poor deluded fool.

NickAu,

Why didn't you just explain to him that in order to hack anything there would need to be an open service running and the port accessible via the internet and that service would have to be vulnerable and exploitable. If didn't understand that then, he really shouldn't be using Kali.

@ Cryptodan :- Yeah, well; there's one born every minute, ain't there? Kali is what it is.....but too many fancy themselves as "hackers" when they really have no concept of the term.....

@NickAu :-

I have tried explaining just how puppy works and that no matter what he tries that without any physical persistent storage device everything that he may have been able to do is gone after a restart, his head seems to be exploding because as you know its not exactly easy to install software in puppy at the best of times.

^^^ Lolol!!!  :hysterical:

Some will never understand Puppy as long as they draw breath. But that's understandable, in a way; 99% of folks DO think "mainstream", because that's all they've ever known. Remember, even many Linux veterans have a hell of a job getting their heads round Puppy.....so what chance does a raw beginner stand?

TBH, we spend an awful lot of time trying to make sure that what the newbie sees on their screen IS as close to what they're used to with mainstream distros (or the Beast of Redmond.....or Crapple, come to that). The end result being that the average user doesn't need to understand the mechanics of what makes Puppy work; they can just fire it up, and use it...  :thumbup2:

(*shrug...*)

Puppy is secure by default; as it comes, OOTB, all ports are closed, and as you say, until and unless a "save" is created, there's no way on God's green earth that any kind of malware could take hold; at the end of the session, everything just disappears into cyberspace....

...as you know its not exactly easy to install software in puppy at the best of times.

Hence why the 'portables' were developed; they don't need installing, and so long as they're connected to the system (by whatever means), they'll run from anywhere.

Most of my kennels run completely from 'portable' Puppyapps.

Mike.

Many thanks to all involved in Puppy development.

I'm, at best, just an average user and it's been a joy to just fire it up and use it with out all the hassles and paranoia that goes with Windows and it's never ending security fixes.
